The Sportsman’s Club of Brown County – April Newsletter
Keep your calendars open for next Thursday, April 24th. Our general meeting will be held at 7:00 P.M. at the Rifle Range. Jeff Stohr, of Groton, will be our guest speaker. Jeff will be talking about his most recent African Safari in the country of Tanzania, and his grand slam on North American Sheep.
The Rifle Range
Due to unfavorable conditions these past weeks the range did not open as scheduled. However, this Sunday, the range will officially open. Range Manager, Ray Ireland would like some help on Saturday to make a few crucial repairs before Sunday. Please contact Ray at 226-2823 if you would like to help with this project.
Rifle range hours will be Sunday afternoons from 1:00 – 5:00 and Thursday evenings from 5:00 – 8:00. Range Masters may also open the range on request. If you are interested in becoming a Range Master please contact Ray Ireland at 226-2823.
The Aberdeen Handgunners
The Handgunner’s will be hosting a match on Sunday, April 20th at 12:00 P.M. May matches are scheduled for the 4th & the 8th also at 12:00 P.M. A complete schedule is posted on our website.
Aberdeen’s American Rimfire Association
The A.R.A. has scheduled a match for May 24th at 9:00 A.M. Check out the SCBC website for future dates or contact Chris Getty @ 225-8522.

Tree Planting Project
The SCBC has decided to increase the tree population on the grounds of the rifle range. Approximately 700 trees will be planted into sod with plastic. This project is being cost shared by the NRCS Office, Pheasants Forever and the SCBC. Volunteers will be needed at the time of planting and the time of planting will depend on Mother Nature. Further information and date of planting will be posted in a future e-mail.
SD Wildlife Federation Conservation Camp
If you know of any freshman, sophomores or juniors who would like to attend camp please contact Dan Opp @ 396-2372. The camp is scheduled for the first week of June.
HuntSAFE
The first and second sessions of HuntSAFE are full. The August session is scheduled for the 4th, 11th & 18th. Register at the Game, Fish & Parks office on East Highway 12. Minimum age for the HuntSAFE program is 12 years of age. Eleven year olds may sign up for the course if they will be turning 12 during the next hunting season.
Pheasant Hunt Raffle
Frank & Sharon Gould of Stony Run Farm have graciously donated a pheasant hunt to be raffled by the SCBC. There will be 350 tickets sold at $10.00 per ticket. The raffle consists of a 1 day hunt for 4 hunters with the opportunity to bag 5 birds each. A round of Sporting Clays will also be available prior to the hunt. Stony Run Farm is a shooting preserve and the dates of operation run from September 1st – March 31st. Weekends in October will be excluded from this hunt. The winning ticket will be drawn at our September, 2008 general meeting. For tickets reply to this e-mail or contact one of the board members.
Pheasants Forever Banquet
Our local chapter of Pheasants Forever is planning their annual spring banquet for Tuesday, May 6th at the Eagles Club. For tickets contact Kenny Erickson @ 225-7045.

To Conservation Officer Brook Brown and his wife Cerissa, who are now the proud parents of Tucker Michael Brown who was born on April 14th weighing in at 8lbs. 9 ozs. & 21 ¼” long.
